Some Definitions:
Bodywork The term bodywork refers to therapies such as massage, deep tissue manipulation, movement awareness, and energy balancing, which are employed to improve the structure and functions of the human body. Bodywork in all its forms helps to reduce pain, soothe injured muscles, stimulate blood and lymphatic circulation, and promote deep relaxation and enable the body to rally its own recuperative powers.
Swedish Massage Swedish Massage involves the use of oils on the skin, and hands, forearms or elbows to manipulate the superficial layers of the muscles to improve mental and physical health. Active or passive movement of the joints may also be part of the massage. The benefits of Swedish massage include increased blood circulation, mental and physical relaxation, reduction of stress, decreased muscle tension and improved range of motion.
Shiatsu Shiatsu is a Japanese form of physical therapy and therapeutic massage, based on traditional Chinese medicine. It combines massage, gentle physical manipulation, and pressure along channels or rivers of energy called meridians.
Ear Candling Ear Candling is a simple, effective method for removing ear wax build-up, fungus and impaction from within the ear canal. For an article on Ear Candling go to: http://colonhealth.net/ear_candling/candling.htm Most people feel an immediate benefit from ear candling and have this done a couple times during the year. I use cylinder shaped candles made from parrafin strips and bees wax. The end of the candle is pointed so it can comfortably fit it into your ear. An aluminum pie pan is placed over the candle and rests on your head. The opposite end of the candle (away from you) is then lit. The heat naturally and easily draws excess wax from your ear to the candle in its vacuum. If you have an ear infection, ear candling should not be performed, you should consult with your doctor.
Most ear candlings take about 2 candles per ear. Please be gentle with yourself after an ear candling and limit loud music and places as well as cold and windy conditions.
Reiki A therapy based on Eastern concepts of energy flow and the seven energy centers in the human body. The purpose of treatment is to heal emotional, spiritual and physical pain throught the transmission of universal life energy, called "ki" in Japanese. It is believed that "ki" flows throughout the universe, and that Reiki connects humans in a more direct way to this universal source. Reiki is used for the healing of animals as well as people.
Reiki is not massage. You may receive Reiki if your massage therapist is also a Reiki Practitioner. The energy flows through their hands. Once a person is attuned to the Reiki Energy, it stays with them for the rest of their lives. When you receive a Reiki Session, the focus is on the energy being sent to you. It is intentional.
Reiki does no harm. It does not counteract with other medical conditions or medications. It simply assists with the healing process that is already being accepted by the person receiving it. It complements your belief system. If you believe that it works and allow it to work, it will. On the other hand, if you believe that it won't work...then it won't. As you believe, so it is.
Reiki follows the following Precepts:
Just for today do not worry
Just for today do not anger
Honor your parents, teachers and elders.
Earn your living honestly.
Show gratitude to everything.
- Dr. Mikao Usui
I also like to think about it like this:
Just for today, I will let go of worry.
Just for today, I will let go of anger.
Just for today, I will give thanks for my many blessings.
I will do my work honestly and be diligent in my work.
I will be kind to every living thing.
Reiki is used for all living things. That is why I believe in Reiki for Animals. Occasionally throughout the year, I will hold a workshop "Hands On Healing for Animals" Also, check out www.animalreikisource.com
Reiki Classes. I teach Reiki Level I, Reiki Level II and Reiki Master Classes. If you would like to schedule a class to fit your needs please contact me on my contact page. I periodically have classes scheduled...please check and contact me if you would like to register for one of the pre-scheduled classes.
REIKI FOR ANIMALS. I also offer Reiki for Animals. Animals are wonderful recipients for Reiki...they have no preconceived beliefs or disbeliefs about it. They feel energy. They know who loves them and who does not. Reiki can be very comforting for physically sick or emotionally distraught animals (it is not a substitute for veterinarian care or training, nor should be construed as such). Reiki does no harm and will not negatively affect the medical care your animal is already receiving.
If you would like for your pet to receive Reiki, please call or e-mail me. Your animal may be brought to my office or we can arrange long distance Reiki treatments.
Reiki Treatments for Animals typically last anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes (perhaps more, depending on the animal). It has been my experience that the animal will "tell" us when they have had enough Reiki energy. Reiki For Animals is a sliding scale: $15-$30 (at my office).
