Myofascial Release


John F. Barnes Myofascial Release (JFB-MFR) is a particular type of Myofascial Release.

According to Cathy Covell, PT in her book "A Therapists Guide to Understanding John F. Barnes Myofascial Release"

       "True JFB-MFR is a full body, hands on technique that was developed and refined by john F. Barnes, PT.  This technique releases the fascial system- a 3-Dimensional web that connects and surrounds every system and cell in the body."

Through trauma or plain everyday living, restrictions can form in the fascia.  The fascia holds all of our muscles, tissues and organs together.  Our fascia cannot be detected by  X-rays and is often ignored.  The fascia of the human body can withstand up to 2,000 lbs of force per square inch.  Our bodies can withstand a lot before they "tweek" out!  This force of pressure can cause our bone structure and our organs to compress and perhaps malfunction or function not even close to capacity. Myofascial Release can help the fascia release and help our bodies resume natural posture.

It is my belief that Myofascial Release helps a person get in touch with what they are feeling (body, mind and spirit). LIke massage, Shiatsu and Reiki, MFR is natural. Often times in Eastern Medicine there is a saying "It gets worse before it gets better". This may not be the case with everyones journey to healing and health.  If we take time...and listen to what our body is telling us, it can be a really wonderful thing.

Myofascial Release Sessions are different from Massage, in that there is no massage cream that is used.  Clients are asked to wear: shorts or swim trunk for men and 2 piece bathing suit or shorts and sports bra for women.  A short evaluation is given to determine where tension and imbalances are being held in the body.

The fee for MFR sessions are:

  • $50 = 1/2 hour session
  • $70 = 1 hour session.

JFB-MFR requires special training on my part and is different than massage therapy. Points on the body are held 2-5 minutes so that a release of the barrier/fascia can occur.
